“BE THE BALL”

Yes, “be the ball” is an important quote from the classic golf movie, ‘Caddy Shack’, but undoubtedly, it is the mantra of the dung-ball rolling, Dung Beetle.

We golfers could learn a good deal from the, so-called, lowly Dung Beetle (see below). These Scarab beetles, revered in ancient Egypt have the ability to roll balls of dung 50+ times their body weight up hill the equivalent of several kilometers. If it were not for these wondrous Telocoprids, approximately 80% of the world’s animal dung would be left unburied! They are the only animal, other than humans, that are known to use the Milky Way (see below) as a navigation guide!

So, the next time someone calls me a “crappy golfer”, I’ll take it as a compliment…for I am ‘strong and persistant’, ‘worshiped and revered’ as well as ‘important and smart’. I am “Scarabaeus sacer, master of the ball”. FORE!
